BERNARD HOPITAL

Guadeloupe, 2013

Showing the work involved behind the creation of a multi-residential complex

One of the themes I elaborated during the meetings held with the construction committee, was my desire to show the people at work behind the scenes. For the residence named after Bernard Hopital, I decided that the construction manager, should be put in the forefront.

I decided to go off ov pictures of him holding the real architect's plans for the residence and imagining the project coming to fruition. The images used are the actual plans of the building I painted him on.

I was the exclusive concept designer and painter for this entire project. In charge of elaborating a global concept for the entire residential complex, I focused on developping themes that were specific to the region or neighborhood: science, sports, nature, fruits and vegetables, notables of the island of Guadeloupe... Facades and communal spaces such as stairwells, corridors and back yards were are thoroughly thought through and every wall possible, was painted.

Built between 2011 and 2013 this multi-residential complex has given many low income families a home and the bright and colorful murals still to this day, give an identity and personality to each building.
