Spray paint to decorate your home? If you think it will look like an abandonned backalley, think again!

Whether you like classical or contemporary style, this incredibly versatile medium can be used on any surface to create colorful and vibrant art that can enhance any room. For the past 40 years, a new art style has been taking over the walls of the world. These artists of a new kind have been perfecting their technique and can offer a fresh approach to beautifying the environment.

When this all started, all the uninitiated eye saw was insignificant hieroglyphs. Populating rapidly in cities across the world, these acts of expression were classified as vandalism and the vandals were hunted down and condemned. Back then, the population would have never imagined they were witnessing the creation of a open air sketchbook. These were the beginnings of a new a genre that was about to flood the world with a colorful tsunami.

While the grand majority of these vandals/graffiti artists were focusing on spreading their name as far and as often as they could, a handful were looking for ways to take the movement to a higher level. They were looking for ways to express their art by mastering the spray can on larger than life supports. Targeting subjects that spoke to a wider public, opportunities to paint legally were becoming more frequent.

Wall after wall, train after train, graffiti evolved from a quick scribble (tag) to massive pieces where the letters had shapes that had never been seen before. And for the few who developed an obsession for drawing, they were now able to create characters and over sized illustrations. These so called “vandals” were spending hours preparing their sketches and, when they were legally granted facades, they took the time to perfect their pieces. They were finally able to share their passion for art. Thanks to years of research and passion by these artists a world of new possibilities opened up.

Little by little the pursued Graffiti imposed it's way into becoming today's Street Art, also known as Urban Art.

From portraits to landscape, realistic to fantasist, monochrome to full color, nowadays you can find anything the urban artist sets his mind to.

Next time you cross paths with one of these sought after artists, take to time to appreciate the quality of their mural art creation and perhaps you will ask yourself: how would this look in my home?
